Editorial Standards

How we source, verify, and correct

These standards govern everything published on ABA Command Center, including sample content used during this initial build.

Primary-source preference

We work from the original document — statute text, rule notices, board guidance, payer bulletins, and official filings — rather than secondhand summaries. When a primary document exists, we link to it and record the date we last verified it. When one does not exist yet, we say so instead of implying it does.

Fact-checking

Every factual claim is checked against a source before publication. Dates, jurisdictions, issuing authorities, and status labels are verified individually. Publication dates and effective dates are always reported separately, because they are frequently different.

Corrections

We correct errors promptly and visibly. Every article carries a correction history at the bottom. Substantive corrections describe what was wrong and what changed; we do not quietly edit the record. Correction requests can be sent to the editorial team at any time.

Clinical review when required

Coverage that touches clinical practice, assessment, treatment planning, or supervision standards is reviewed by a qualified behavior analyst before publication. Reviewers are named where they consent to be named.

Conflicts and disclosures

Any financial, employment, advisory, or ownership relationship that a reasonable reader would want to know about is disclosed in the article itself, not buried in a policy page. Columnists disclose their day-job affiliations on every piece.

Vendor relationships

We do not accept payment, equity, gifts, or services in exchange for coverage, placement, or favorable framing. If a vendor relationship exists anywhere in the organization, it is disclosed in coverage of that vendor or its competitors.

Patient and family dignity

We do not publish material that treats autistic people, clients, or families as illustrations. We avoid deficit framing, we do not use imagery of children receiving therapy, and we seek informed consent before publishing any personal story.

Employee privacy

Workforce coverage protects individual employees. We do not publish identifying details about staff without consent, and we do not repeat internal complaints in a way that would identify the person who raised them.

HIPAA and protected health information

We do not solicit, accept, or publish protected health information. Documents sent to us are reviewed for PHI and any such material is destroyed rather than stored. Case examples are composite or fully de-identified and labeled as such.

AI-assisted work

AI tools may assist with research triage, transcription, and drafting support. No article is published without human reporting, human verification against primary sources, and human editorial judgment. AI is never the source of a factual claim, and AI-generated text is never published unreviewed.

Opinion versus reporting

Reporting and opinion are labeled and formatted differently. Column essays, including What Better Requires, are clearly marked as opinion and represent the author's personal views unless otherwise stated.

No pay-to-praise coverage

There is no sponsored editorial, no paid placement in rankings or lists, and no arrangement in which coverage is conditioned on a commercial relationship. If advertising is introduced, it will be visually distinct and labeled.

ABA Command Center publishes general educational information about the Applied Behavior Analysis industry. It is not legal, compliance, billing, or clinical advice.
